International conference organized by EventEra in cooperation with Faculty of Nuclear Science and Nuclear Research Institute Řež under the auspices of Ministry of Industry and Trade with the participation of leading experts from Canada, South Korea, the United States and Russia discussing the topic of small modular reactors (SMR).
170 participants attended this conference. Among the speakers were for example Ondrej Chvala from Tennessee University, David LeBlanc from the company Terrestrial Energy, Han-Ok Kang from the South Korean organization KAERI and Milko Kovačev from Rusatom Overseas. Czech Republic was represented by NRI Řež director Karel Křížek and František Fiedler from EGP Invest.
The experts agreed, that small reactors will be attractive opportunities for economy in Asia and South America how to satisfy the hunger for energy – in both ecological and economical ways.
In presence there are 11 countries focused to small reactors research and development, elaborated are 25 different concepts. Some – such as american NuScale or russian concept MBIR – are planned to be put into operation in the next decade. The advantage of small reactors is lower price, high safety standards, flexibily of production and lower operation costs. In SMR technology are interested countries with high energy demand, but insufficient infrastucture and lack of finances to build large reactors.
